Bicycle Safety Presentations & Rodeos

Safe Community Wood Buffalo partners with Bylaw Services & RCMP to help increase bicycle safety in the Wood Buffalo Region. Bike rodeos & in school presentations are held throughout the municipality during the spring/summer months to encourage safe riding. Included is information regarding proper helmet & bicycle fitting. The importance of hand signals, following road signs & general biking etiquette.
Information about concussions & the importance of protecting the brain is also discussed. Touching the Jell-O brain is very exciting, making the comparison to our real jello-like brains that indefinitely need protection. The egg drop object lesson is also well received, with students learning they must wear a helmet on every ride. The children also enjoy the hands on learning aspects of the event where they get their helmets properly fitted & then get to ride their bicycles, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades through a road way setup, practicing their hand signals with Bylaw Services & RCMP.
